Kalispell, MT (August 13, 2024) – A 68-year-old male bicyclist was taken to the hospital after being hit by a vehicle while in a crosswalk on North Meridian Road in Kalispell on Tuesday, according to Kalispell Police Patrol Captain Chad Fetveit.
The 20-year-old driver of the Acura MDX allegedly drove through the crosswalk while the signal was red and hit the cyclist. Other cars were stopped at the crosswalk when the accident occurred. The cyclist was taken in an ambulance to a local hospital with a broken leg, arm, and head injury.
Officers questioned the driver on scene, though it’s unclear if citations or charges were issued. An investigation is ongoing, and witnesses were asked to contact the Kalispell Police Department in the meantime. No further details have been released during the interim, however.
Our thoughts are with the injured man and his family. We hope for his full recovery.
Bicycle Accidents in Montana
Catastrophic outcomes may result from bicycle accidents, particularly those that involve other passenger vehicles. In the event of a collision, a bicyclist is extremely vulnerable, as there is very little protection between the rider and the road. This renders them vulnerable to life-altering injuries, including paralysis, traumatic brain injuries, and, tragically, even death. For these reasons and more, it is imperative to seek the advice of an attorney who is knowledgeable about the relevant laws if you or a loved one has sustained injury or loss as a result of a bicycle accident.
Cyclists are exposed to substantial hazards and exposure when they ride on public highways, rural routes, neighborhood streets, and nearly everywhere in between. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that bicycle incidents result in the deaths of more than 1,000 individuals annually, with nearly 467,000 individuals suffering injuries in 2015. What’s more, the annual economic cost of these catastrophes is a staggering $10 billion. The burden of medical expenses and lost productivity can be overpowering if you are one of the injured in a bicycle accident. Nevertheless, victims are entitled to receive just compensation for their injuries when they result from negligence on the part of another party.
