Missoula, MT - Three Victims Killed, One Injured in Semi-Truck Collision on I-90 at MM 89

Missoula, MT (February 18, 2025) – According to the Montana Highway Patrol, an SUV ran off the highway in Missoula County on Tuesday, February 18, killing two men and one minor.

The collision occurred in the eastbound lane of Interstate 90, close to mile marker 89, approximately a mile northwest of Frenchtown. Around 3:00 a.m., a westbound SUV lost control and skidded off the roadway, according to Montana Highway Patrol Captain Shawn Silvan.

Two vehicles stopped to provide aid after the collision, according to MHP. Two men were killed when they were struck by a tractor-trailer that lost control while they were outside. The tractor-trailer also hit the parked vehicles, killing one of the juveniles inside and seriously injuring another. The names of the three victims have not yet been made public, nor have any other details. An investigation is still going on, however.

We offer our sincerest condolences to the deceased victims’ family members. Our thoughts are also extended to the injured victim and their loved ones at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Truck Accidents in Montana

Tragic, often deadly, consequences often result when passenger vehicles and commercial trucks collide. Due to the enormous disparity between regular cars and large trucks, major injuries occur in even minor collisions involving these oversized vehicles. Because of this, federal safety requirements and state negligence laws also apply to commercial trucks. What’s more, if you were involved in an accident with a commercial truck, you should ensure that you take the following steps:

  • Get medical help right away: Injuries in any car or truck collision are often not easily visible. After a stressful event, such as a truck collision, your body goes into “fight-or-flight” mode. This sets off a series of stress chemicals, including adrenaline, which keeps you from realizing how injured you are right away.
  • Inform the police about the collision: In addition to recording the names and contact details of any witnesses, police will investigate the collision and compile a crash report that will assist in identifying the incident’s causes. Police may also suggest charges against a truck driver who, for instance, was operating a vehicle recklessly or while under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.
  • Take pictures: If you are able, try to get pictures of the accident site from several perspectives. Ask someone to take images for you if your injuries prevent you from doing so. These may support your attorney’s case-building efforts.
