Billings, MT (September 4, 2024) – Billings Police Department officers say a man was killed after being hit by a car in midtown shortly after 9:00 p.m. Monday.
Responding to multiple calls reporting an individual in the roadway, officers arrived and found a person who had been hit by a car. Sgt. Benjamin Beck says the man was hit on the 2400 block of Central Avenue and was taken to a hospital with serious injuries but was later pronounced dead.
The initial investigation revealed that the vehicle, driven by a 39-year-old male, was traveling eastbound and struck a 51-year-old male who was crossing the road. The driver did not initially stop but later returned to the scene. He flagged down a Montana Highway Patrol Trooper and cooperated with the investigation. That said, the BPD crash team has taken over the investigation but has not released further details.
We offer our sincere condolences to the deceased victim’s family.
Pedestrian Accidents in Montana
The vast majority of pedestrians take regular safety measures while crossing the roadway. A few things pedestrians can do to protect themselves along our streets include walking at a steady, quick pace, staying away from crowded areas, and using crosswalks rather than jaywalking.
Sadly, a careless driver may still cause injuries to even the safest pedestrian. Even worse, when a motorist shows complete disdain for the safety of others, pedestrian accidents occur. What’s more, serious injuries and even fatalities frequently result from these incidents, given the complete lack of protection that people walking on foot have compared to vehicle motorists.
